MR-Robot

Mixed Reality as an Enabler for Remote Diagnostic and Maintenance with Industrial Robots – MR-Robot

In the course of the 4th industrial revolution the capabilities of robotic systems have greatly improved, ranging from computer vision and automatic path planning to grasping random oriented objects. Despite this progress the complexity of programming those systems is a key drawback which prevents broad application. Especially the deployment of robots for maintenance tasks is in its infancy because of the lack of experts with deep application and robotic knowledge.

Through the usage of augmented reality as a programming aid and a service oriented architecture approach, the overall goal of this project is making robots accessible to none robot experts. Furthermore, it will be investigated how the deployment of robots for maintenance tasks can be improved via augmented reality to tackle the shortage of skilled workers and enhance resilience of the industry.
